in TREA’s London Bicycle Festival/Commuter
Challenge. Commuter packages, marketing
tips, presentations, incentives, OTC prizes
flyers and media promoted by TREA.
Results
50 businesses/schools, 957 commuter participants,
1,899 car-free days, 11.79T greenhouse
gas emissions (GGE) diverted based on
41,867 km registered, 42 event partners,
100 prize partners, 150 event mini prizes,
25 events, 23 media, distribution of 910
commuter kits, 1,105 anti-idling buttons,
several publications. |

Description
Businesses visited by TREA staff promoted
anti-idling pledges with decals and handouts
to drivers /employees. Number of people
committed to reduce vehicle idling and
by what amount used for calculation of
data. Posters, e-messages, newsletters,
signage and idle free zones recommended
as other approaches to reach drivers.
Results
18 day care centres visits included surveys,
411 vehicles, 163 drivers committed to
stop idling, or 40.75T GGE/$11,410 savings,
7 businesses visited included staff OTC
message with display/materials. Overall
1,000 decals distributed to employees,
estimate of 500 will reduce idling by
10 minutes/day, or 125T/$56,000 savings.

Fuel-efficient vehicles |

Description
Dealerships were contacted to schedule
TREA train-the trainer visits for staff
to promote the OTC. Managers were asked
to convey GGE reduction and financial
incentives for fuel-efficient vehicles
to consumers in the market for a new vehicle
during Sept/Oct and to invite consumers
to register with the OTC and receive a
gift. Results
: 30 dealerships, OTC trainer kits delivery,
consumer OTC prize packages distributed
included OTC bags, tire gauges, OTC pen
and pamphlets. Ballots for a $100 dinner
out were distributed to sales staff. Target
of 100 OTC signups with September promotion
achieved. 116 signups. London Honda, winner,
provided most pledges. |

Description
TREA welcomed support as Green Communities
Association (GCA) encouraged more walking/
cycling with students within 5 kms to
school sites from home with a passport
to log trips. Results
Iwalk Club mailouts this year distributed
by TREA in Nov. TREA school survey confirmed
10 Iwalk Club schools on board. Ste-Jeanne
d’Arc won 1st prize - a $4,000 naturalization
schoolyard project from a GCA Iwalk Club
promotion. Awards event took place Oct
5 afternoon, Iwalk Day with 128 schools
involved took place Oct 5 morning. |

as other approaches to reach drivers.
Results
16 school visits included surveys, 630
drivers committed to stop idling, equals
157.5T GGE/$44,100 savings, distribution
of anti-idling kits, posters, 1,410 anti-idling
buttons to 200 schools. Schools surveyed
last year reduced idling time –
7 HS visits idling 4 to less than 2 minutes,
9 ES visits idling 2.5 to less than 1
minute. |

gauges to drivers registering with TREA
for OTC. Also tie with Car Heaven visits.

37 half day visits to stations, 16 dropoffs,
4 Car Heaven visits, 4 half day visits
with Canadian Tires, 182 tire gauges distributed
by TREA and 400 by Car Heaven equivalent
to 72.2T GGE/$30,100 savings, 500 decals,
4,000 handouts, 2,885 people committed
to10 min anti-idling reduction equivalent
to $201,950. |

Description
TREA staffed Home Depot promotion of coupon
incentives for home dwellers to retire
old two/four stroke gas lawnmowers/trimmers
and purchase cleaner alternatives, ie
push-power, electric or rechargeable electric
mowers. This year, environmentally friendly
fertilizers, water efficiency and pesticide
alternatives message added. Results
N. store 60 mowers/1trimmer equivalent
of 1.83T GGE, S. store 56 mowers/3trimmers
equivalent of 1.74T GGE, 500 visitors
to each store display, in addition, 1,000
TREA OTC handouts distributed by cashiers.

Description
Property managers asked to encourage corporation
boards to schedule presentations explaining
site visits. Visits included free CF bulb,
energy tips, condo energy kit on EnerGuide,
OTC and Energy Wise appliances, weatherstripping
and thermostats etc. OTC pledges encouraged
for local data collection and followup.

Description
TREA staff provided students in Grades
3 and 4 presentations/activities on pesticide
use and OTC tied into curriculum for both
school boards and EcoSchools criteria.
Also, TREA OTC workbooks were completed
with steps to reduce home pesticide use
in neighbourhoods along with other OTC
messages. Followups to the schools to
collect workbook results have helped with
TREA data collection. Results
Worked with 2 school boards, 22 schools,
more than 1 class visited in many cases,
605T reduction. |

shops, 991 kits. 160 kits also distributed
by TREA at events. |

Description
TREA staff to promote composting workshops
to support City neighbourhood visits.
Workshops of interest to community leaders,
volunteers and teachers to promote home
composting, its role in waste management,
compost units, vermicomposting and troubleshooting.
TREA also built compost demonstration
site at GL . Results
It was recommended TREA run the workshops
separately, so summer venues were available.

Description
TREA staff provided presentations to Scout
troup executives to further provide opportunity
to visit individual troups with presentations/activities
on climate change. Also, TREA OTC workbooks
were completed with steps for Scout climate
badge. Followup visits to collect workbook
results helped with TREA data collection.

Worked with Scouts/Cubs and then added
Guides/Brownies troups. 44 units visited,
222T reduction. |

Description
RFL is a special project as part of London’s
150th anniversary of its first 150 years
(2005) and the focus of looking ahead
for the next 150 years launched a “StraTreegic
Plan, a long-term tree and greencover
plan for the City of London by setting
goals and promoting involvement in planting
trees. Results
TREA welcomed RFL’s 2005 treeplanting
at: Friends of Stoney Creek, Wilfrid Jury
PS, OSCO at Thames Park and Monsignor
Feeney Greenspace, Coventry Woods Condo
Corp., near Euston Park, Gibbon’s
Park, Envrion Western, Mitches Park with
TREA, Condo Corp. 35, Siemens VDO Automotive,
Deloitte at Berkshire Park. |
