Description
The 12 businesses visited last year by
TREA's Air Quality Campaign and the 12
businesses participating nationally with
the OTC locally will be contacted to schedule
TREA visits for the OTC and the Commuter
Challenge. Commuter packages, presentations
on options, marketing tips and prizes
and media will be promoted. A mailout
in the spring to a number of local businesses
and followup will encourage participation
in 2005 events and local data collection.

Anti-idling |

Description
The same businesses as listed above will
be invited to have TREA staff on site
in parking lots to promote anti-idling
pledges with decals and handouts to employees
directly in the cars. The number of people
identifying they will reduce vehicle idling
and by what amount will be part of the
calculation for local data collection.
Posters, e-messages, articles in business
newsletters anti-idling bylaw signage
and idle free zones will provide other
approaches to reach drivers. |

3.
Fuel-efficient vehicles |

Description
Local dealerships will be contacted to
schedule a TREA train-the trainer message
to staff to promote the OTC and display
materials that will be provided to identify
the GGE and mileage efficiencies and savings
of new fuel-efficient vehicles as well
as local climate change impacts. Dealers
will be asked to convey potential financial
incentives for fuel-efficient vehicles
to consumers in the market for a new vehicle.
It is hoped that hybrids will be showcased
on site. |

Iwalk Club |

Description
TREA’s ASRTS coordinator will encourage
more walking/cycling with students within
5 kms to a school site from home with
a passport that students will log trips
with in order to receive prizes. The Green
Communities Association will also provide
support with resources and in-kind hours
to design the approach to schools spearheading
this new program from other ASRTS activities
existing in schools. A mailout in the
fall of 2004 to IWALK participants will
begin the program. |

Description

Description
TREA staff visits to various local gas
stations will include distribution of
anti idling pledges, decals and book marks
at certain sites and tire checks demonstrations
along with free tire gauges, pledges and
handouts as incentives to drivers at other
locations to continue the practice and
help with local data collection. Emphasis
on driving safely to reduce tire wear,
increased fuel efficiency and comfort
will be conveyed as well as local climate
change impacts. |

Mow Down Pollution |

Description
TREA staff will support again in 2005
Clean Air Foundation’s (CAF) national
spring campaign promotion of coupon incentives
for home dwellers to retire old two/four
stroke gas lawnmowers or trimmers and
purchase of cleaner alternatives, such
as push-power, electric or rechargeable
electric mowers. This year, environmentally
friendly fertilizers, water efficiency
and pesticide alternatives will be added.
Data will be calculated by CAF and provided
to retailers and TREA. |

Trea workshops |

Description
TREA members will organize themes throughout
the year with presenters to address topics
related to OTC pledges for home, yard
and vehicle efficiencies. OTC pledges
will also be encouraged with a staffed
display on site and handouts. Local climate
change impacts will be conveyed and signups
will assist with local data collection.
Promotion of workshops will include media,
libraries, schools, various bulletin boards,
City Hall and our local OTC partners. |

Description
A number of condo property managers will
be asked to encourage corporation boards
to schedule presentations and initiate
scheduling of individual site visits.
Visits will include an Energy Wise appliance
check (4), installation of a free compact
fluorescent light bulb, a condo kit containing
info on EnerGuide, OTC and Energy Wise,
weatherstripping and thermostats etc.
An OTC pledge form will be completed for
local data collection and a followup will
take place. |

10.
Pesticide reduction |

Description
Various neighbourhood and/or associations
affiliated with schools will be challenged
to reduce their pesticide use. Students
in Grades ¾ will be invited to
have TREA staff give presentations on
pesticide use as the main focus and students
will be asked to complete a TREA OTC workbook
with steps to reduce pesticide use at
their residence as well as other OTC messages.
Followup visits to the schools will collect
workbook results to help with local data
collection. |

Description
TREA staff will contact hardware stores,
Business Depots and garden centres to
distribute TREA’s pesticide kit
on pesticide alternatives and the impacts
of pesticide use etc. to homeowners and
to create a small display area for a pesticide
free message. Individual retailer discount
coupons may be included in the kits. Also,
TREA’s London pesticide free lawn
site tour will be promoted to homeowners.
Data will be organized to assist with
local data collection. |

Composting workshops |

Description
TREA staff will promote composting workshops
at libraries, schools or churches as organized
to support the City neighbourhood visits.
Workshops will be of interest to community
leaders, volunteers and teachers also
to further promote home composting. Workshops
will address composting, compost terms,
its role in waste management, composting
units, vermicomposting and troubleshooting.
TREA’s program, flyers and a list
of local organic farmers will be available.

Description
TREA staff will provide initial presentations
to Scout troup leaders and Scout executives
to further provide opportunity to give
presentations to individual Scout troups.
Presentations will tie in with the OTC
challenges and discussion will include
climate change impacts and the link to
a newly developed Scout climate change
badge. A champion will be requested to
support the promotion and scheduling of
visits. A system for local data collection
will be addressed. |

ReForest London |

Description
ReForest London is a special project as
part of London’s 150th anniversary
of its first 150 years (2005) and the
focus of looking ahead for the next 150
years with the launch of a “Strategic
Plan, a long-term tree and green cover
plan for the City of London by setting
goals and promoting involvement in planting
trees. TREA and ReForest London will partner
together on appropriate ReForest London
projects involving Scouts, schools and
community groups. |
